Optimization of Public Street Lighting (PJU) to Improve the Safety of Nighttime Activities of the Kamarang Lebak Village Community, Greged District, Cirebon Regency

Abstract

The Community Service Program (KKN) in Kamarang Lebak Village, Greged Subdistrict, Cirebon Regency focused on optimizing Public Street Lighting (LPJU) as an essential facility to support the safety of community activities at night. This topic was chosen due to the limited number of functioning streetlights, which created security vulnerabilities, particularly during night patrols, religious gatherings, and small-scale economic activities. Initial observations identified 9 LPJU points located in Blok Cilopang, Blok Nalajaya, and Blok Kebon Buah, with several units not functioning properly. The service method included field surveys, interviews with village officials and residents, as well as repair and reinstallation of LPJU using simple equipment such as bamboo poles, cables, 12-watt lamps, and other installation tools. The results showed that all 9 LPJU points were successfully restored, resulting in brighter village main roads, increased residents’ sense of security, and greater participation in evening social activities. Therefore, optimizing LPJU proved effective as a practical effort to improve safety and comfort in the village environment.
